2013 Poem 25: Oh Pioneers

Come my curious children,
Raised on Twitter, bred on YouTube,
We once explored with film and fixer
And vidicon.

Oh Pioneers,
We knew so little we were unsure
You would survive the asteroid belt
Or be smashed to bits

Two targets in one.
A trick shot like a bowman from a pool,
Bent by giants but never broken,
Offline you roll on.

You gave first glimpses
Of volcanic moons and cloudy titans.
We have much more to remember
than a plaque.

---

With apologies to Walt Whitman
